Thunderhead (sequel to Scythe)

Shusterman follows up his Printz Honor Book Scythe (2016) with that most difficult of feats: a sequel that surpasses its predecessor. Where the first book focused on the titular scythes tasked with gleaning lives to control populations in a future where death has been vanquished, the second installment delves into the inner workings of the Thunderhead, the sentient cloud that smoothly operates all of society. The plot is straightforward: Rowan, a rogue ex-scythe apprentice, stalks the streets of MidMerica taking the lives of the scythes who have lost sight of their mission and kill for pleasure or personal gain. Citra, once his counterpart, is now the ordained Scythe Anastasia, and as she works to better the system from the inside, her own life may be in danger. But it is the Thunderhead-part government and part god, almost all-knowing, and increasingly aware of its own limitations-that commands the most attention, and it is pulling strings across the globe. Through the Thunderhead, Shusterman widens the already impressive scope of his near-future utopia while also keeping a deft finger on the pulse of our own turbulent times. Exceptionally clear-eyed and brutal in its execution, this raises even bigger moral questions than its predecessor-and, like its predecessor, offers no easy answers. HIGH-DEMAND BACKSTORY: There's no doubting Shusterman's talents-he's nabbed both a National Book Award and a Printz Honor Book-and this sequel to an enthusiastically received series starter is eagerly awaited. Empire's End (Star Wars: Aftermath Trilogy #3)

Star Wars: Chuck Wendig Teases Empire’s End Novel

Release Date 2/21,2017
As many Star Wars fans know by now, Disney and Lucasfilm have organized a cohesive franchise canon in which just about every piece of media set in a galaxy far, far away is connected and part of the same larger narrative.

Arguably one of the most prominent collections in the new canon is the Aftermath trilogy written by author Chuck Wendig. Set shortly after Return of the Jedi, these books aim to fill in the three decade gap between Episode VI and The Force Awakens, with the Rebel Alliance attempting to form the New Republic as the last remnants of the old Galactic Empire hang on to whatever power they have. This series of novels will wrap up soon with Aftermath: Empire’s End, which is due out in February 2017. Plot details are obviously being kept under wraps for now, but there is one major aspect that connects directly to the movies: the Battle of Jakku. - Read more from Screenrant.

The Final Day (One Second After Trilogy Conclusion)

The highly-anticipated follow-up to William R. Forstchen’s New York Times bestsellers, One Second After and One Year After, The Final Day immerses readers once more in the story of our nation’s struggle to rebuild itself after an electromagnetic pulse wipes out all electricity and plunges the country into darkness, starvation, and terror.

Since the detonation of nuclear weapons above the United States more than two years ago, the small town of Black Mountain, North Carolina has suffered famine, civil war, and countless deaths. Now, after defeating a new, tyrannical federal government, John Matherson and his community intend to restore their world to what it was before the EMP apocalypse. For the most part, they are succeeding.

This period of relative stability doesn’t last long. A new, aggressive government announces that it’s taking over and ceding large portions of the country to China and Mexico. The Constitution is no longer in effect, and what’s left of the U.S. Army has been deployed to suppress rebellion in the remaining states. John fears he and his town will be targets.
